Wednesday, April 5, 2017 | STEM Kite Workshop | Chattanooga, TN – Chuck Jones will be conduting a STEM kite workshop for a Family Math Night at Red Bank Middle School. Participants will build a kite, calculate area in sq. inches, convert to sq. ft., find their weight in grams, convert to pounds, and use a formula to figure out how much wind is needed to fly the kite. Saturday, April 15, 2017 | Lexington Kite Festival | Lexington, KY – Celebrate National Kite Month and Parks & Recreation’s first major outdoor event of the season. Free activities will include kite flying, children’s games, special entertainment, kite making and more. This year entertainment will include a magician and an obstacle course.
Food vendors will be on-site throughout the day or families may pack a lunch and picnic in the park. |

Saturday, April 22, 2017 | Spartanburg Soaring International Kite Festival | Spartanburg, SC – Come SOAR with Chapman Cultural Center during this all day International Kite Festival! Spartanburg Soaring! is a community-wide initiative that encourages creativity, promotes healthy outdoor activity and builds civic pride. Using kites as a common theme, Spartanburg Soaring! engages cultural curiosity and promotes active play through activities and events all across the city, including live music, great food trucks, and an art market. Kids can make and decorate their own kites, purchase a kite from the CCC, or bring a kite from home. The festival is free and open to all, including the many international kite flyers who have come from Europe, Asia, Canada, and across the United States. The kite festival will be held in and around the Chapman Cultural Center, where hundreds of colorful kites will fill the skies above Spartanburg. |
